~ A Little Trip #2 ~

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone had a smoochy time. Reb has had a lovely past two days, with Nid finally dropping her N.Legs, and Omega finally giving away his heart. (Much better presents than I could afford!). Reb also bought me a FALZUM BURNER for my MH, and we did the new Valentione's Day event, netting us some incredibly gay (but really cute) signed wands.

Aside from that we've done nothing but levelling MNK and SCH all the way from 40 to 65! I'll be honest, we've been in maybe 2 or 3 parties overall. Most of the exp has been duo or trio. Like above. Level Synch can be awesome when it's not eating up all the desired whore jobs.

It's the best way to do it though! We also duo'd all of our AF, from Reb's easy as hell crazed-SCH BCNM, to coffer key farming and hunting for me. It's been so much fun!

However this is just the half-way point (Or is it 66? I forget), and it gets even more unfortunate!

Incoming wall-o'-text!

As mentioned in my last entry, I start my new job after moving house next week. I won't have the internet for a while, and I seriously doubt I will be able to play FFXI under these harsh working hours. I've already notified the LS, whether they understand and respect it is up to them, but I can't see myself being as loyal and "always on call" as I was back when I was a hobo.

Late night events and weekend events I will probably have to miss. I want this new start to put me in a better position both mentally and physically, as I try to burn off some FFXI-flab, get into shape, and get back into some new (or old!) games such as PSO and a pile of 360 games I haven't touched yet that I really should.

In saying that, when I come back is unknown, so stop asking! I guess that's just the chance you take when you need to change things around irl.

I can be sure of one thing though; My views on FFXI as a game more than a job will become much stronger, since with limited free time I'll want to have as much fun as I can, and I'm not letting anyone tell me how to to spend it.

It's been an interesting and slightly surreal week to say the least. I got the job I was interviewed for which opens up a lot of new career paths and opportunities. Unfortunatly, it also means I'll be moving house within the next two weeks and will probably be internetless for a while.

So enjoy this last little update until I'm on my feet again!

Let's start with Windurst. A place I've been very interested in since getting Sandy Rank 10 purely because I've always wondered what it felt like to be part of another nation. Well, now I know!

I solo'd Ranks 1-5 to catch up with Reb who was stuck on 5-1. We used our newly levelled SCH and MNK to take down the 2-3 Boss, then Fiye and Macho helped us with the notorious 5-1. We then duo'd all the missions up to 9-2, which Medi and Aeyze helped out on. Thanks a lot guys.

The story was great. Not as good as Sandy, but epic nontheless. Little hints of CoP that I would of missed had I started in Windy, and also some amazing new zones and enemies I'd never touched or seen before such as Cardians and Toraimorai Canal. I had a great fun few days doing these missions, and it paid off. My wallet even made a little 300k profit!

But that's not all I've been up to. I've also caught up on WoTG missions with Reb and Medi, which have outstanding dialouge and character animation as usual. Some pointless running around but hey, this is FFXI. Everything's a grind!

Then I dicked about with some new NMs for the hell of it. I got a shiney new pair of H2H for my MNK, but some of the other drops were pretty abysmal.

Like this faggot ass Tia, which lasted up to 3 hours long because some idiot flailed it at 1%, resulting in us having to mass-HP and gather again for a second round...All for a few fire crystals and some materials I won't see again. Ho hum.

So, let's get on with this week's retardedness, shall we?

A very slow couple of weeks, I've been cutting down on FFXI and focusing on early nights. I also took a little trip down to England for a job interview! Anyway let's get on with the update...

Me and Reb have been FoV-ing our way up the grinding ladder on MNK and SCH. We went from 37-44 in a couple days before the whole thing got pretty boring. We'll give it another go today but once you hit the Xarcabard stages it's just aggro and rape city, pumping out an amazing 300 exp/hr. Really not worth it imo...

MNK'S FUN! It's nice to actually live through a whole fight, watching Guard and Counter proc often, and pump out decent Chakras and Raging Fists damage (Pre-Pummel, I think I'd consider myself lucky if I did 500+ damage at EM~T mobs on PUP at 75...) Also HP/MP Merits + Cassie ftw. I have like 1030 HP at 44, it's gonna be hot at 75! ;O

I also did a bunch of quests for some MNK gear on the way, like this one which was a lot of running around. It's worth it because I love any type of Beastmen quests, especially Quadav and Yagudo ones, haha. Plus it's an extra 50-60k when I outgrow the usefulness of it. :3

Dohoho. They don't stack with AF+1 head, which is kinda shit cuz I don't wanna give up Homamas for Zerging. They're okay for Level caps, but at least they're they have one use at 75:

We also nabbed a Sandworm right before Faf yesterday. It was a pretty smooth fight (lolsandworm), but the Serket inside kinda fucked us up a little. We had 9-10 people maybe? And a couple of 2 boxes, but grats to Reb on her White Tathlum. :3

So yeah, told you it was a boring couple of weeks. Oh but now comes the best part. The wall-o-inside jokes and random luls I get up to on my little shitty adventures nobody cares about!

I hope everyone got drunk and stayed up until 8am like I did, what a bad influence I am! :( Let's get on with the update.

I think this year will be a lucky year. After camping Gigas for 2 hours on December 31st with Aeyze, we had no luck with Hobbybo lumber drops. I went out to a party and came back at 2am on New Years, and killed one Gigas:

RNG MERITS ...are finally complete, leaving me to start on casually meritting magic skills, and *shock* maybe start levelling a new job.

...Which might be MNK! In my time off during the Christmas break I did a bunch of quests, grabbed a bunch of items such as O.Kote (ilu Ains!), Fumas, and Ju'Gi.

I also camped my RSE Sachet and luckily went 1/3 in an empty zone! I loved camping this NM, but hated camping Mee/Quu, and ending up borrowing Kote and buying mah Fumas. Seriously, they're still overcamped to hell and I honestly still don't fully understand how the hell they work, constantly ending up missing a pop by snuffing around in widescan's dreadful interface.

I mean who makes an NM able to pop DURING the 12 min repop of it's PH? It's like as soon as the 1 hour respawn time is up you have to CONSTANTLY CHECK WIDESCAN AND NEVER LEAVE THE PC. I was at it for 8 or 9 straight hours, and they never popped after the 1 hour mark, and always popped 1-2 min after the PH died. Seriously, bunch of faggot NMs gave me nothing but a sore neck. 0/5 and 0/6. Maybe they'll drop one day, but not anytime soon.

Speaking of NMs, me and Aeyze bumped into this fellow on our level 12 mini-adventure. Aeyze...kinda died when she thought she could solo it on DRG, so came back on her megaNIN and killed it nps!

Mmmm Nyzul has been shit recently. We got the band back together but we've been so unlucky with drops and timeouts. Bleh.

Lastly, during my RNG merit spammage, I finally got my finger out and bought Perdu on impulse just to see what all the fuss is about. So here, have a very biast and vauge review:

General:

WOW IT SUCKS. TP gain is slower due to less TP a hit (even on /SAM!), it makes me crit less (obviously hurr durr), and worst of all it makes me look like a god damn Gundam action figure when combined with Homam/Adaberk/Ace's. If those aren't all incredibly good reasons to avoid it, then you must be high.

Other Subjobs:

I even tried it out on /NIN and was shocked at how low my damage was in Nyzul. NYZUL. After 100% you may aswell get an AH Walmart WAR to replace the fact it does shitty damage, especially when you're holding TP for HNMs and skillchains. The Acc/Att bonuses are not noticable at all. Infact I think I missed MORE with Perdu than I did with Tred because of the non-forced crits.

Conclusion:

Say what you want, for a high-end DRK with Scythe/Crit merits and Abyssal, Tred blows this pile of crap out of the water on everything. Because Insurgency opened up even more Skillchain options with other jobs, I find myself holding TP a lot more in order to get bonus MB/SC damage, and Perdu really punishes you for going over the 100% TP mark. So, don't waste your IS. I could, because I have 100k of the fuckers, but I still regret it.

These numbers, and many more, were just some of the correct combinations in my mini adventure that I like to call: Chests.

Firstly, We should familiarise ourselves with the term "Chest", as it can be taken or expressed in a number of ways:

"Adventure? C-chests? No thanks." - Aeyze: Casket Expert.
"Chest? :£ More like. urface!" - Rebme: Dickhead.
"omg it was 51. Fucking chest I said 53." - Jkun: Rage Machine.

As you can see, chests contain an abundance of negativity, silliness, and anger. Let's go into more detail, shall we?

Certain zones contain chests that can either be blue, or brown. Blue chests are discarded faster than your mum's savings at a Debenham's sale. They contain temporary items. Worthless pish posh, I say what what jolly good pip pip.

Brown chests, however, contain the holy grail, the second coming, the elixer of life. Sort of. 99% of the time, you will find trash. Kazham Peppers, Silver Obis, Shit, Ores, Wool, Sand, Cuir Highboots, Threads, Air. Okay so they have Elixers too, but they're not Elixers of LIFE.

However, for the lucky adventurers, for the very very very lucky adventurers, each zone contains one R/Ex piece of equipment that is kickass at low level, and shite everywhere else.

...BUT WAIT A SECOND IT'S NOT THAT EASY, NOPE. Each brown chest is locked.

Okay, no really. But it may aswell be. These locked chests require you to enter a 2 digit number that is guessed through the power of deduction, using 4-6 shitty clues. Believe me, IT'S ALWAYS GOING TO BE 4. IF YOU SEE A CHEST CONTAINING 6 CHANCES THEN YOU HAVE OBVIOUSLY BROKEN THE GAME AND YOU SHOULD CALL A GM BECAUSE THAT CHEST BELONGS IN FUCKING JAIL.

Anyway, here are some examples of bad clues:



As we can see, they are bad clues. Did I tell you they're bad clues? They're pretty bad.

GOOD clues could be:

You have a hunch one of the digits is 6.
You have a hunch one of the digits is 8.

THAT WAY, YOU FUCKING KNOW WHAT IT'S GOING TO BE. But clues such as these are actually incredibly rare, so don't expect them.

So, in short: WHY THE FUCK DID I SPEND 20~ HOURS DOING THIS? What possessed me to constantly log in, and hammer away at mobs praying for a brown chest that might actually contain something? I'll tell you what:

I needed to justify wasting my time on these chests, and even if the rewards are fucking mediocre, I have something to show for it:

They came as part of a fucking set. WHICH MEANT EVEN MORE CHESTS...

So yes. I don't ever want to touch a chest again. I actually dream about them. I dream about 4 chance chests with shitty clues. I dream about a single mob dropping 2 brown chests as I jump for glee. HOWEVER, I MUST LEARN TO PUT IT ALL BEHIND ME. I MUST FREE MYSELF ASWELL AS THE DELIGHTFUL FRIENDS WHO HELPED ME PAINSTAKINGLY OBTAIN THESE PIECES OF SHIT FROM THEIR EVIL, BLACK, GRASP.
